HP Recommended

My neighbor gave me his hp6700 inkjet premium printer.  i hooked everything up and on the printer it is saying - the printhead installed is not intended for use in this printer.  i had to use my old connection cables from a different hp printer to connect to this printer.  My neighbor can't seen to find the cables that go with it.  Could this be the cause of it not working? Or is it the printhead?  How do I fix it.
