HP OfficeJet 3831 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On downloading driver printer prints in colour but page size is set as letter. Changing this to A4 and the printer prints only black (in Word or Adobe). (Changing the print quality causes the same loss of colour printing.) The grayscale is not checked. HP Print and Scan Doctor (and HP Smart) says all is good. Only solution is to reinstall driver, but I am back to letter size. Any ideas?

hi @tigdad

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I reviewed your post and understand that the printer is not printing the black or color when you change the paper size.

I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

Look forward to hearing from you and you have a great day!

Take care.

Cheers!

Thanks for the advice. Reinstalling the driver does reset the printer back to printing in colour, and has been my solution for some time. However any change such as attempting to print in BEST quality causes the printer to go back to black only, requiring a reinstallation.
