printing in black and white does not work

Hi,

After downloading and installing the drivers on a Mac computer, my HP OfficeJet 7610 series printer which still has black ink but no ink for the other colors refuses to print;
Still, I applied this:

Is it normal?
If not, where does the problem come from?

Hi @TomPlavia

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue. 

Your printer does not support single cartridge mode and must have some ink of each color available to print. This printer prints only when all ink colors are available. All ink colors are used in periodic servicing tasks and to prevent clogs in the printing mechanism and other print quality issues. 

You may contact HP Shopping to order a replacement ink.

What characteristics must the printer have to be able to print when one of the ink cartridges is not full?

If my printer does not have this feature,is there any way to remedy this?

Only with printers that have inbuilt printheads can support printing with one cartridge.

If I remove the ink cartridges that are empty and leave the black ink cartridge non-empty, will I be able to print in black and white?

I'm afraid, No.

All printers may have the option to print only in black and white.
Printer designers aren't so dumb that they can't imagine the ability to print in black and white with just one black ink cartridge.
So there must be a solution;

As the color ink is empty, you'll not be able to print unless the empty inks are replaced. 

To change the print settings, you may refer to point#6 from here - HP Printers - Print Settings Guide (Mac)
