how to turn a picture into a poster

One way to do this is to use your PDF software.

Caveat

Know that the "poster" sheets will have a border at the outer edges of the content - the outside border is mandatory.  You can, of course, trim the assembled poster as you like.

➡️  If necessary, install the Adobe Reader DC software.

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC /Optional  Foxit Reader)

  • HINT: Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software
  • Adobe Reader DC software should be installed even if you do not open / view / print PDF files directly from the software.

Adobe Acrobat Reader Learn & Support

➡️  Download and save the image as a PDF file.

➡️  Open the file in Adobe Reader DC

➡️  In section Page Sizing & Handling > Select to print the file as "Poster"

Select the Tile Scale - enter different numbers to see a preview of the results.

Note that the number of sheets of paper depend on the size of your paper.  Change (if necessary) the size of the paper in Properties (printer dialog).

Select the desired overlap - what you select depends on how much of the document / image you need to align the pieces when you assemble the poster.

Optional

Print as Image

If the file will not print due to unusual content (odd fonts, color schemes, tables, other oddities), print the file as an Image.  Image printing does not require the printer software to translate file content.

Open the offending PDF file in Adobe Reader DC > File > Print > Advanced >>

  1. Set the printer select the colors (Optional)
  2. Print the PDF file as an image
