Microsoft Windows 11

I used the smart universal printer driver to install the driver for this product.

Now one user has an issue that Outlook client changes the saved printing preferences. In preferences a tray is selected. When the user opens the dialoguebox we can notice that on this machine only there is an issue between Outlook and HP-printing preferences. When we open the dialoguebox in like Acrobat Reader or Word: the printing preferences are intact.

Hi @bart-plif,

If you're experiencing issues where the HP Universal Print Driver's preferences are not holding in Microsoft Outlook but work fine in other applications like Adobe Acrobat Reader or Word, consider the following steps:

  1. Update Printer Driver:

    • Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Universal Print Driver installed. Check the HP Support website for any updates.
  2. Reset Printer Preferences in Outlook:

    • Try clearing and re-setting the printer preferences specifically within Outlook:
      • In Outlook, go to File > Print.
      • Select the HP printer and click on Printer Properties.
      • Set the desired preferences again, ensure the tray selection is correct, and apply changes.
  3. Check Outlook’s Printer Settings:

    • Sometimes, Outlook may retain its own default print settings. To adjust:
      • Open a new email in Outlook.
      • Click File > Print > Print Options.
      • Check if the correct printer and preferences are selected, and make any necessary adjustments.
  4. Remove and Re-add Printer:

    • On the affected user’s computer, remove the printer from Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Reboot the computer.
    • Add the printer again and set the correct preferences.
  5. Office and Windows Updates:

    • Ensure both Microsoft Office and Windows 11 are fully updated, as updates can resolve compatibility issues.
  6. Test with a New Outlook Profile:

    • If the issue persists, create a new Outlook profile to rule out profile-related issues:
      • Go to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles.
      • Add a new profile, configure the user’s email account, and test printing preferences again.
  7. Default Settings:

    • Verify that the printer is set as the default in Windows, which might help retain the preferences.
