With your help, I did uninstall my original copy of Internet Explorer 11.  I then attempted to install the copy of IE11 that I had downloaded from Microsoft.  After about 5 minutes of progress, I received a message that the installation was not completed.  I retried the installation with the same result of incompletion.  Trying to run IE showed that my computer now had an out-of-date IE8 running!  I then restored my computer to the time before uninstallment of IE11, a situation that I can tolerate:  I can print and display PDF files from the Internet if I use the Google browser or if I run IE11 immediately after computer turn-on.  Otherwise, for IE11, the SPLwow64.exe process will not be initiated by a print request.  Similarly, the Adobe Reader is affected by problems establishing the FlashUtil64...process, as observed in the Task Manager.

I'm an old engineer, but I do have a Master's in EE and know there's a reason for this glitch, but I (and your group) have invested enough time in it.  Thanks.
