I had prior to last week been using my HP Easy Scan and printing functions without problem. Then had an issue last week with scanning --- would not communicte it said. Updated the software in the HP 6970 and updated the firmware on my computer. Now it appears to not work for anythiing. I am not completely shut down. Don't tell me it is incompatibility because it worked for a year on this computer.

@EMA2025, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Connection

How are you connected to the printer? USB or Wi-Fi?

If Wi-Fi, is the printer connected to the same network as your computer?

Try unplugging/replugging the USB cable or restarting your Wi-Fi router and printer.

Restart Devices

Restart both your printer and your computer. Sometimes a fresh start clears weird glitches.

Reinstall HP Software

Uninstall the current HP Easy Scan and printer software completely.

Download the latest version of HP Easy Scan and drivers directly from HP’s official website for your printer model.

Install fresh and restart.

Check Printer Status

Open your printer’s control panel on the computer.

Check if the printer status shows online, ready, or if there are any error messages.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have done ALL of that but the problem persists. I CAN print via wifi. I CANNOT scan via wifi. The printer and the computer are connected to the same wifi ... HOWEVER ... the printer no longer emits its own wifi connection ... they are both connected to the same wifi for internet. Previously, the printer had its own wifi and I would disconnect my computer from internet wifi and connect to the printer wifi. Then everything worked perfectly. When finished I would then revert back to my internet connection.

Hey @EMA2025

Thank you for your response

Here are a few more steps you can try to resolve this:

Reset Network Settings on the Printer

This will reset the printer’s Wi-Fi settings, including Wi-Fi Direct, and could help clear out any glitches after the firmware updates.

Go to the Settings on the printer, find Network Settings or Wireless Settings, and look for an option to Reset Network Settings or Restore Default Network Settings.

After the reset, reconnect the printer to your regular Wi-Fi network and enable Wi-Fi Direct again if needed.

Reconfigure the HP Smart App

Since you can print via Wi-Fi, make sure the HP Smart app is correctly set up to detect both the print and scan functions.

Open HP Smart on your Mac and check if it recognizes the printer for scanning. If not, try removing the printer from the app and adding it back in

Let me know how it goes.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
