Hi @René9,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code {104,-2147483647} when trying to uninstall McAfee indicates a problem with the uninstallation process. Here’s a detailed guide to help you resolve this issue:

1. Use McAfee Removal Tool

McAfee provides a dedicated removal tool called the MCPR (McAfee Consumer Product Removal) tool, which is specifically designed to cleanly uninstall their products.

Download MCPR Tool:

  • Visit the McAfee Removal Tool website and download the tool.

Run MCPR Tool:

  • Run the Tool: Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Restart: After the tool completes, restart your computer to ensure all components are removed.

Verify Uninstallation:

  • Check Programs: Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features to ensure McAfee is no longer listed.

2. Use Windows Built-In Uninstaller

If MCPR doesn’t fully resolve the issue, you can try using Windows’ built-in uninstaller:

Open Control Panel:

  • Access: Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.

Uninstall McAfee:

  • Locate McAfee: Find McAfee in the list of installed programs.
  • Uninstall: Right-click on it and select Uninstall. Follow the prompts to complete the uninstallation.

3. Use Safe Mode

Sometimes, booting into Safe Mode can help with removing stubborn software:

Restart in Safe Mode:

  • Access Safe Mode: Restart your computer and press F8 (or Shift + F8) repeatedly during startup to access the Advanced Boot Options. Select Safe Mode.

Try Uninstalling:

  • Run Uninstaller: Try uninstalling McAfee from Control Panel or running the MCPR tool again in Safe Mode.

4. Manually Remove McAfee Components

If the above methods fail, you might need to manually remove McAfee components:

Delete McAfee Folders:

  • File Explorer: Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86). Delete any McAfee folders found.

Clean Registry Entries (Advanced):

  • Open Registry Editor: Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  • Backup Registry: Before making changes, export a backup of the registry: File > Export.
  • Search and Delete Entries: Use Edit > Find to search for McAfee entries and delete them. Be cautious when editing the registry to avoid system instability.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you very much for your comprehensive solution. Unfortunately, after I reported the problem in the community, I turned off my computer and it was no longer possible to start up. After a day and a half of reinstalling the Windows 11 system with the HP helpdesk and (mainly!) with the help of a Microsoft technician, the brand new computer started working again. The problem was in loading Windows and also in the Bitlocker key. I only saw your message when the computer was operational again after a day and a half. Thank you very much again for your efforts, It's great that people like you want to spend so much time helping others. Awesome!!!
