HP Smart Tank 795 All-in-One

Hello,
I have an HP Smart Tank 795 printer that is stuck on the "Checking the Ink Tanks" message and is not responding to any commands. I have tried the following steps with no success:

  1. Performed a full power cycle by turning off the printer, unplugging it, and plugging it back in after a few minutes.
  2. Removed and reinserted the ink cartridges, ensuring they are properly installed.
  3. Checked the ink levels and ensured there were no blockages or tape on the cartridges.
  4. Updated the printer firmware to the latest version.
  5. Used the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose the issue, but it did not provide a solution.
  6. Performed a factory reset on the printer through the settings.

Despite these steps, the printer remains unresponsive, and the system appears to be completely stuck.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance in resolving this issue. If there are additional steps I can try or if the problem requires service, please let me know.

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

2. Reset the Ink Sensor System

  1. Open the front ink access door and remove all ink cartridges.
  2. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  3. Wait for 5 minutes to allow the system to reset.
  4. Reinsert the ink cartridges carefully.
  5. Plug in the printer and turn it on.

3. Check for a Paper Jam or Ink System Blockage

  • Open the ink tank area and check for any leaked ink or blockages.
  • Inspect the paper path to ensure there's no hidden paper jam or ink spill causing the system to freeze.

4. Enter Support Menu for a Semi-Full Reset

If the printer is still stuck, you can try a semi-full reset from the hidden support menu:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Back (↩️) and OK (✔️) buttons together.
  3. While holding, press and release the Power button.
  4. Continue holding the Back and OK buttons until the support menu appears.
  5. Navigate to Reset Menu → Select Semi-Full Reset.
  6. The printer will reboot—check if it gets past the "Checking Ink Tanks" screen.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
