Hello all. I could use some help. I am stuck with trying to remove an optional hp printer software update from my pc. It's from an issue re a previous printer & isn't needed any longer. I have no way of removing it as of now. I read on here that I should check my devices under my hp account, delete the hpsa {hp support assistant} app, restart my pc, & reinstall the same app. These didn't help.

I have checked all areas for my listed printers, and I am all good. How else can I do this? I have a printer stuck in instant ink, so might this be why? I cannot see any other Microsoft updates because of this. Those folks at instant ink do not answer me; I have tried to email them & contact them re social media, so I can update them as to my printers. What do I do now? I have no idea why there isn't a delete button right next to the update. Can I just call them, perhaps? Thank you.

Hi @theresalee,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Uninstall the Software via Control Panel:

  • Open the Control Panel on your PC.
  • Go to Programs and Features or Add or Remove Programs.
  • Look for any HP software, including drivers related to the previous printer, and select Uninstall.
  • Follow the prompts to complete the uninstallation process.

Delete Remaining HP Files:

  • After uninstalling, navigate to C:\Program Files\HP and C:\Program Files (x86)\HP and delete any remaining folders related to the previous printer software.
  • Check C:\ProgramData\HP as well for any leftovers.

Clear HP Printer Entries in Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting it from the menu.
  • Expand Printers and Print queues.
  • Right-click on the printer(s) related to the old software, choose Uninstall device, and confirm any prompts.

Remove Registry Entries (Advanced Users):

  • Press Windows + R, type regedit, and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HP and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HP.
  • Carefully delete any entries related to the old printer model. Note: Editing the registry incorrectly can cause system issues. Only proceed if you are comfortable with registry modifications.

Use HP Uninstaller Tool:

  • Download and run the HP Uninstaller tool, which is designed to remove HP software and drivers cleanly.

Reboot Your Computer:

  • After completing the above steps, restart your computer to ensure all changes take effect.

I hope this helps.
