Welcome to the HP User Community.

What you do depends on where the unwanted printer is listed and the source of the "update" message.

One possible scenario is that the printer is still in Devices and Printers.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Check the Printers list - if you find the unwanted printer, Right-Click on that printer and Remove

==================================================================

OR

If the "update" is trying to come through the HP Support Assistant,

If you are unable to remove the unwanted device from the HP Support Assistant Settings or Device List,

Try removing the unwanted printer from your HP Account Dashboard.

Next, Restart the computer and recheck.

If the stubborn, unwanted printer is still listed in the HP Support Assistant,

Uninstall the HPSA > Restart the computer and log in > Install a fresh copy of the HPSA

Example - HP Account Dashboard

HP Account - Login / Dashboard

Notes:

  • Log into your HP Account if / when you need central access to your device information, including the ability to update your personal  information.
  • Printers ever subscribed to Instant Ink might resist being removed and will remain in the list.

Example -

Download, Save, Install the latest supported HP version of the HP Support Assistant

==================================================================

OR

Much less likely -- if the message is not from anywhere else, then "might be"

NOTE: Ignore if not the type of "update" or message]

  • Error message "HP Status BL.dll” – module not found

Printer has been uninstalled / removed – error message persists

  • Open File Explorer (formally Windows Explorer)
  • Type (copy and paste) into the address bar and press Enter:

                      %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

  • Delete (drag the file to Trash bin) the shortcut for monitor ink alerts

Example Path:

C:\Users\Dragon\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
