Hi @schnejder,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to reset your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw to factory settings, follow these steps:

Using the Printer's Control Panel:

  • Turn off the printer if it is currently on.
  • Press and hold the 'Cancel' button and the 'Right Arrow' button on the control panel.
  • Turn the printer on while still holding both buttons.
  • Release the buttons when the "Permanent Storage Init" message appears on the display.
  • The printer will perform a reset and then restart.

Using the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Connect your printer to your network and make sure it is powered on.
  • On your computer, open a web browser and enter the printer's IP address in the address bar. The IP address can be found on the printer's control panel under Network Information.
  • Once you have accessed the Embedded Web Server, go to the System tab.
  • Click on Service in the left-hand menu.
  • Click on Restore Defaults.
  • Confirm that you want to restore the printer to its factory settings.

Using HP Smart App:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 computer from the Microsoft Store.
  • Open the HP Smart app and add your printer if it is not already added.
  • Click on your printer in the app to open the printer settings.
  • Go to the Advanced Settings (this will open the Embedded Web Server in a browser window).
  • Follow the same steps as in the Embedded Web Server section above to restore defaults.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
