Hi @Jostein7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble getting the scanner function of your HP printer to work on Windows 11, and the installation software isn't setting it up correctly, you can follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Ensure Compatibility:

  • Verify that your HP printer model is compatible with Windows 11. You can check the compatibility list on HP's support website.

Update Windows:

  • Make sure your Windows 11 operating system is up to date. Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for any available updates.

Install HP App:

  • Download and install the HP app from the Microsoft Store. This app can often provide more comprehensive support for both printing and scanning functions.

Use HP Easy Start:

  • Download and run HP Easy Start from the HP official website to guide you through the installation process. HP Easy Start can help automatically find and install the latest drivers for your printer, including scanning functionality.

Download Latest Drivers and Software:

  • Visit the HP Support page, search for your printer model, and download the latest full-feature drivers specifically for Windows 11. These drivers should include scanning capabilities.

Manually Add the Scanner:

  • If the scanning function is still not working, you can manually add the scanner:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Click on Add a printer or scanner.
    • If your scanner does not appear, select The printer that I want isn't listed, and then choose Add a device manually.

Use Windows Scan App:

  • Try using the Windows Scan app available from the Microsoft Store as an alternative scanning method. This app detects compatible scanners connected to your computer.

Check HP Scan Software:

  • If you have it installed, ensure that the HP Scan software is properly configured and updated.

Firewall & Security Software:

  • Ensure your firewall or security software isn’t blocking essential components of the scanning software.

Run Troubleshooter:

  • Use the built-in Windows Troubleshooter by going to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters, and then select Printer.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with installing the scanner function of your HP printer on Windows 11.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
