Hi @jrjetta1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To install the correct driver for your HP LaserJet Pro M283fdw printer on a Windows Server 2016 environment, you typically don't need to install HP Easy Smart. HP Easy Smart is primarily for managing networked printers and does not directly relate to driver installation.

Here are the steps you can take to ensure you have the correct drivers installed:

  • Download the Driver: Visit the HP website or use the included installation CD to download the latest drivers for your specific printer model. Make sure to select the correct operating system version (in your case, Windows Server 2016).
  • Install the Driver: Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer driver on your Windows Server 2016 machine. During installation, you may be prompted to connect your printer via USB or network, depending on your setup.
  • Add the Printer: After the driver installation is complete, go to "Devices and Printers" in the Control Panel or through the Settings app. Click on "Add a printer" and follow the prompts to add your HP LaserJet Pro M283fdw printer. Make sure to select the correct driver during the setup process.
  • Test the Printer: Once added, try printing a test page to ensure that the printer is set up correctly and that the driver supports color printing.

If you're experiencing issues with color printing despite using the correct driver, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Driver Settings: Check the printing preferences or properties of the printer to ensure that color printing is enabled.
  • Printer Configuration: Access the printer's web interface (if available) to verify that color printing is enabled and configured correctly.
  • Driver Update: Make sure you have the latest version of the printer driver installed. Sometimes, updating the driver can resolve compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
