Hi @Poochie-17,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To set up your HP Officejet J4680 printer, follow these step-by-step instructions. This setup guide will help you prepare the printer for use, from unpacking to connecting it to your computer.
Step 1: Unpack the Printer
- Remove the printer from the box.
- Remove all the tape and packaging materials from inside and outside the printer.
Step 2: Install the Ink Cartridges
- Power on the printer by connecting the power cable and pressing the power button.
- Open the ink cartridge access door. The carriage will move to the center.
- Remove the ink cartridges from their packaging. Be sure to only touch the black plastic on the cartridges.
- Remove the protective tape from the ink cartridges without touching the ink nozzles or copper contacts.
- Insert the ink cartridges into their respective slots (color in the left slot, black in the right slot) until they click into place.
- Close the ink cartridge access door.
Step 3: Load Paper
- Pull out the input tray.
- Slide the paper width guide all the way to the left.
- Load a stack of plain white paper into the tray and adjust the paper width guide so that it rests against the edge of the paper.
Step 4: Connect to Power and Set Preferences
- Turn on the printer if not already on.
- Use the printer’s control panel to choose your language, country, and set the date/time if prompted.
Step 5: Install Printer Software
- Install the printer software from the HP website or the installation CD that came with your printer.
- If using the CD: Insert the CD into your computer's CD drive and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If downloading: Go to the HP website, search for ‘HP Officejet J4680 driver’, download the appropriate software for your operating system, and run the installer.
Step 6: Connect the Printer to Your Computer
- USB Connection:
- Connect the USB cable from your printer to your computer.
- The installation software should prompt you when to connect the USB cable during the software installation process.
- Wireless Connection:
- Use the printer’s control panel to navigate to the wireless setup options.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your wireless network. This usually involves selecting your network from a list and entering the password.
Step 7: Fax Setup (Optional)
- Connect the telephone cord to the printer and to a phone line if you will use the fax function.
- Set up fax settings via the printer control panel, following the guided setup to configure fax options.
Step 8: Test the Printer
- Print a test page to ensure everything is working correctly. This can typically be done from the printer’s control panel or the last step of the installation software.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
