setting up tray 1 and tray 2 for a4 printer and envelopes

Since setting up my printer with HP Smart Print my HP Officejet Pro 7740 will only print from tray 1.

Previously before changing to HP Smart I used Tray 1 for envelopes and tray 2 for A4 paper and it worked well for years.

When I go to settings on the printer screen and go to tray set up it shows that tray 1 is set up for envelopes i use and tray 2 set up for A4 Paper. but printer will only print from tray 1. So if I wish to print A4 document I have to load A4 paper in tray 1 and if I wirsh to print envelopes I have to take the A4paper out and load my envelopes. The printer will then print envelopes without having to make any further adjustments. Then when finished printing envelopes I have to take the envelopes out of tray 1 and load A4 paper.

How can i fix this so that i print envelopes from tray 1 and A4 paper from Tray 2.

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Install the Full Feature HP Driver (not just HP Smart)

HP Smart is limited in some advanced settings like tray selection. Ensure you have the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 full driver/software installed.

Go to HP's support page for the OfficeJet Pro 7740.

Download the Full Feature Software and Drivers (not just the HP Smart app).

Install it and set the printer as default again.

Configure Windows Printing Preferences

This is crucial because Windows overrides HP Smart’s choices if configured incorrectly.

Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.

Right-click on HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 → choose Printing Preferences.

Under the Paper/Quality or Advanced tab, set the following:

Paper Source (Tray selection): Choose Tray 2 for regular A4 prints.

Save this as default if desired.

For envelope printing, create a separate profile:

Go to the Printing Preferences again.

Change paper size to the envelope format (e.g., DL, C5).

Set Tray 1 as the source.

Save this as a custom shortcut/profile, e.g., "Envelope Print"./

Hello Garp.

Please send me a link to the full feature software and drivers  for my HP Officejet Pro 7740 I cannot find it on the HP website.

When I try to find the download all i can see is the instructions to download hp Smart.

I still cannot print envelopes from tray 1 even after uninstalling HP smart and reinstalling it.

As I have stated in my previous notes to you I have signed onto the Official HP website and searched for Download software and drivers for hp officejet prp 7740 but all i get is a link to download hp smart.

So if you could give me a link to follow for thw software you want me to download I am not getting anywhere.

Perhaps you are based in the USA whereas I am based in the UK perhaps the website with the download is different in the UK than it is in the USA.
