HP OfficeJet Pro 8216 Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an 8216 printer (which shows up as 8210 on computer). My Win 10 machine recently crashed and I have been trying to print from a microsoft surface running win 11. Compared to my win printing, the printer settings are now exceedingly sparse. Where the first page of settings showed a long list of preset settings and allowed you to save your own custom settings to the list, there is no such thing now. Also there is no option to select types of paper (glossy, matte, etc.), only thickness. I did manage to get edge to edge printing but after messing around trying to get my old stettings, I can no longer find it. I hate it when whoever designs the software does it only for folks want the simplest way to print; my work requires more flexibility.

Hi @ftodd,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the updated printer settings on Windows 11 are not providing the level of customization and options that you had with your previous Windows 10 setup. Unfortunately, with operating system updates, there can be changes in the way printers are managed and configured.

Here are a few suggestions to help you navigate the new settings and potentially regain some of the flexibility you had.

Printer Properties:

  • Right-click on your printer in the Devices and Printers section.
  • Select "Printer Properties" (not just "Properties").
  • Check for any additional tabs or settings that might not be available in the basic settings.

Advanced Printer Settings:

  • Explore advanced settings within the printer options.
  • Look for a button or link that says "Advanced," "More Options," or something similar.

Printer Software:

  • Ensure that you have installed the latest drivers and software for your printer. Visit the HP website to download the latest drivers specifically designed for Windows 11.

Printer Preferences:

  • In the print dialog box, click on "Preferences" or "Printer Preferences." This is where you might find more detailed settings.

Application-specific Settings:

  • Check if the application you are printing from has its own print settings that override the system settings. For example, Microsoft Word often has its own set of print options.

Windows Update:

  • Make sure your Windows 11 installation is fully updated. Sometimes, printer-related updates are bundled with general system updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
