Hi @pgrant2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’re trying to set up a network scan folder for your HP Smart Tank 7602 on macOS 26 (Tahoe), but you’re getting an “incorrect credentials” error even though you set it to “no credentials required.” Let’s go through proper troubleshooting and setup steps.

1. Confirm Folder Permissions

On your Mac, go to the folder you want to use for scanning.

Right-click → Get Info → Sharing & Permissions.

Make sure your user account has Read & Write access.

If you want to allow access without credentials, you may need to enable “Everyone” with Read & Write permissions.

2. Enable File Sharing

Go to System Settings > General > Sharing.

Turn on File Sharing.

Click the + under Shared Folders and add the folder you want for scans.

Under Users, ensure Everyone has Read & Write if you want to avoid credentials.

3. Note the Correct Network Path

Use the SMB path format for HP Smart:

smb://<MacComputerName>/<SharedFolderName>

Example: smb://Johns-MacBook/Scans

4. Test Access from Another Device

Open Finder > Go > Connect to Server (⌘+K).

Enter the SMB path above.

Ensure you can connect without entering credentials (if “no credentials” is set).

5. Enter the Path in HP Smart

Open HP Smart > Scan > Network Folder setup.

Paste the correct SMB path.

For credentials, if everyone has access, leave no credentials or try your macOS username and password if required.

6. Firewall / Security Check

Go to System Settings > Network > Firewall and make sure File Sharing is allowed.

Some firewalls block SMB access, causing “incorrect credentials” errors.

7. Restart Devices

After configuration, restart your Mac and printer to ensure the network folder is recognized.

I hope this helps.
