I had setup this printer before but am starting from a factory reset.  The printer cartridges and the paper were already in the printer and I wonder if that is what threw off the setup process.

Hi @kgrater67,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check the Setup Conditions:

  • Ensure that the paper is correctly loaded in the input tray.
  • Verify that the ink cartridges are properly installed and seated in their slots.

Restart Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This may clear any glitches that are causing the setup process to freeze.

Reinstall Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove the ink cartridges from their slots.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges, ensuring they are securely seated.
  • Close the ink cartridge access door and see if the setup process resumes.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Inspect the inside of the printer for any obstructions or packing materials that may have been left behind from the factory reset process.
  • Remove any visible obstructions.

Perform Factory Reset Again:

  • If possible, perform another factory reset.
  • Follow the specific instructions for your printer model to initiate the factory reset process.

Update Printer Firmware:

Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.

Use HP Smart App for Setup:

  • Sometimes using the HP Smart app on your mobile device or computer can help complete the setup process more smoothly.
  • Download the HP Smart app, connect it to your printer, and follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.
