Hi @amami1956,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Since you can successfully ping the printer, your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is definitely active on the network, but your computer's security settings or the HP software are likely blocking the specific "discovery" packets needed to link the two devices over the WiFi-to-Ethernet bridge.

Install via Manual IP Address

  • Open the Control Panel on your computer and select Devices and Printers.
  • Click Add a printer at the top of the window, then click The printer that I want isn't listed when it fails to appear.
  • Select Add a printer using an IP address or hostname, enter the printer's IP address (from the printer screen), and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Verify Network Profile and Sharing

  • Click on the WiFi icon on your computer taskbar and select Properties for your connected network.
  • Ensure the Network Profile is set to Private; if it is set to "Public," Windows blocks printer discovery for security.
  • Go to Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings > Advanced sharing settings.
  • Turn on network discovery and file and printer sharing under the private network tab.

Reset the HP Smart App or Print Spooler

  • Open the HP Smart app and remove any existing icons for the 8710 by right-clicking them.
  • Click the plus sign (+) to add a new printer and choose the option to "Add a printer that is already on the network."
  • If it still isn't found, restart the Print Spooler in your Windows Services (services.msc) to refresh the communication bridge between the Wi-Fi and Ethernet segments of your router.

Please refer to the following document for further assistance: HP OfficeJet 8710 - Wired Network Setup (Windows)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Hello Kuroi_Kenshi

Thank you for your help and guidance.

First I connect my comuter with cable to simplify the the problem

I tried the installation according to your instructions but I was unable to get

HP SMART to recognize  the printer.

After many work around I managed to get the application to recognize the printer

But I was frustrated that the application identified the printer as the generic seris

model 8500 and not as the unique model 8710.

And more the application failed to detect the fax feature of the  device.

On the other hand, Win10 does recognizedthe printer both as 8500  model and

as the  8710  model, and manages to print. To scan I  have to go into the

system's innards, so scanning is really inconvenient.

I can access the device through the Embedded Web Server – EWS feature

and can scan. Still it inconvenient way for inexperienced users.

Therefore ,I deleted all to start fresh and start all over again.

I could not make HP Smart to recognize the printer no matter what and how.

Win10 and EWS still can do the job as described above.

My Device details:

HP OfficeJet Pro 8710  - the name on front panel. And some Win10 functions and

registery

HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g  - the name in EWS and WIN10

Wi-Fi Direct: DIRECT-17-HP OfficeJet Pro 8710

Host name : HP54AAE2

I hope  you can  find a suitable way to solve the problem

Thanks for the help

Regards

Hi @amami1956,

Since your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is showing up inconsistently (sometimes as the 8500 series) and HP Smart isn’t detecting the fax or scan features, this points to a driver/software mismatch rather than a hardware fault. Let’s go step by step to get the printer recognized correctly on your wired network:

Remove Old Printer Drivers

  • Conflicting drivers can cause the printer to appear as the wrong model.
  • Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right‑click any HP OfficeJet entries (8500/8710)
  • Select "Remove device."
  • Open Programs and Features and uninstall any HP printer software

Download Correct HP Software

  • HP Smart alone may misidentify the printer; full drivers ensure proper recognition.
  • HP Support site > OfficeJet Pro 8710 Drivers
  • Download the Full Feature Software and Drivers package
  • Avoid generic Windows Update drivers

Re-add the printer in HP Smart

  • Once drivers are correct, HP Smart should detect the full model and features.
  • HP Smart App > Add Printer
  • Remove any existing 8500/8710 entries
  • Click + Add Printer
  • Select the 8710 from the network list
  • Verify fax and scan features appear

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Hello Kuroi_Kenshi.

I followed your instructoins, I removed all HP apps and drivers.

I download the “Full_Webpack-40.15.1230_1-OJ8710_Full_Webpack.exe”

Run IT.

It create “HP OfficeJet Pro 8710” Icon and  “Shop for…”

It even create at “Printers & scanners” “Fax - HP OfficeJet Pro 8710”.

At stage of checking Network environment It can’t find the printer,

Not automtic nor by ip nor by host name (Ex: HP682F3E).

HPSmart cant recognize the printer too.

On priner display panel, I can see the following info.

“Printer information

Printer Name: Officejet Pro 8500 A909g

            Product Number: CB023A

            Model Number: 8710

            Serial Number:CN657E31B3

            Serial ID: 26239 “.

At the web server in my compuer browser The head line is:

“ HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g”

I is it O.K. that the Priner Panel show the 8710 as 8500 and also

The EWS recognize the 8710 as 8500?

I did messed with printer setup and still it worked fine

before my windows crash (from other reason) and then I had to reinsatll the

printer that didn’t succeed.

Is this could be the problem?

Thank you for guidance and patience.

Hello Kuroi_Kenshi.

After posting my last replay I found that HPSmart in my android phone recognize

my printer as hp OfficeJet 8710. I scan from it and test the print function.

So it make me very curious why I can't  achieve that on my computer.

thanks again.

Best regard .

Hi @amami1956,

Thank you for the detailed update; you’ve done a lot of the right steps already. The fact that your Android HP Smart app correctly identifies the printer as an OfficeJet Pro 8710 confirms the hardware is fine. The mismatch you’re seeing on Windows (showing as 8500 series) is due to driver/software conflicts. Let’s go through a structured fix.

Add Printer by IP Address

Discovery packets can fail across Wi‑Fi/Ethernet bridges, but manual IP setup works.

Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a printer

Choose The printer that I want isn’t listed

Select "Add a printer using IP address or hostname."

Enter the printer’s IP (from printer panel)

Complete the wizard

I hope this helps

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
