Hi @lumno

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I'm really sorry your Smart Tank 520 isn’t working with your Chromebook. That kind of setup frustration can be disheartening, especially with a new printer. While PPD files are typically used for Linux systems, Chromebook printing relies on native support or compatible drivers through CUPS and the HP App.

Steps to Set Up Smart Tank 520 with Chromebook

1. Confirm Network Connection

  • Make sure your Smart Tank 520 is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromebook
  • You can check this on the printer’s control panel or via the HP App on your mobile device

2. Add Printer via Chromebook Settings

  • On your Chromebook, go to Settings > Advanced > Printing > Printers
  • Click Add Printer
  • Enter the printer name and IP address (you can find this by printing a Network Configuration Page from the printer)
  • Set Protocol to IPP
  • Use Queue: ipp/print
  • For Manufacturer, choose HP
  • For Model, select a similar Smart Tank series if 520 isn’t listed (e.g., Smart Tank 500 or 530)

3. Use HP App for Mobile Printing

  • Install the HP App on your Android or iOS device
  • Add your Smart Tank 520 and use the app to print documents stored in Google Drive or Gmail
  • This bypasses the need for Chromebook-native drivers

Download: HP App for Mobile Devices

4. Check HP Support Page for Updates

Let me know if you’d like help locating your printer’s IP address or configuring CUPS manually. Once connected, your Smart Tank 520 should deliver smooth and reliable printing from your Chromebook.
