Hi @chiefsenior ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've lost the HP software on your computer and are experiencing issues with scanning on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978, you can download and reinstall the necessary software and drivers. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Remove Existing Software:

  • Open the Applications folder on your Mac.
  • Locate the HP folder and move it to the Trash.
  • Empty the Trash to remove the HP software completely.

Download Software:

  • Visit the official HP Support website: HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 Drivers and Software.
  • Enter your Mac's operating system (e.g., macOS High Sierra) and click "Change."
  • Download the latest Full Feature Software or HP Easy Start, depending on what's available.

Install the Software:

  • Open the downloaded file to start the installation process.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
  • Connect your printer to the computer when prompted.

Verify the Connection:

  • Ensure that your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is connected to the same network as your Mac.

Test the Scanning Functionality:

  • Once the installation is complete, open the HP Easy Scan application or any other scanning software on your Mac.
  • Try scanning a document to see if the issue is resolved.

Update Software (Optional):

  • After installation, check for software updates on the HP Support website to ensure you have the latest version.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
