Hi @thebaron

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the driver installation issue.

Let's try these steps to perform a root level driver un-install -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

Download and install the software and drivers from here for Windows 8.1 (64-bit). Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the issue still persists, you may try these steps -

1. Right-click on the Start or the Windows icon and open run.

2. In the Run box, type %temp% and hit on "Ok". This will open the "Temp" folder.

3. Select "Date Modified" to "Today" and look for a 7z.... folder.

4. Open the folder and look for a .msi file.

5. Right click on it to install.

Try running the downloaded file in compatibility mode. Once the driver is downloaded, right click on the download in the browser and then click on "Show in folder". Right click on "Properties" and then click on the "Compatibility" tab. Select, "Run this compatibility mode for:" - Windows Vista. Also, check the box for "Run this program as an administrator".

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for trying to help me. I Have tried every possible way to get the software to load without success, so I took the printer and my computer to Currys/PC World and payed them to install the software. They were unable to load it, so that was a waste of £45. It is such a shame that it is impossable to talk on the phone to someone who could help at HP. My only option when my DJ5560 finaly has to be replaced I will have to buy a Cannon or Epson printer. Just to let you know I have had 3 HP computers and 2 HP printers and never encountered a problem. When I went from Win 7 to Win 8.1 I downloaded the drivers for the 5560 with no problem and it worked from day one. Also when I took my computer home I had to restore it to an earlied date because they had messed it up. Sorry I could not give you any good news.

@thebaron Before you completely give up on that printer, I suggest you try the below steps:

If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver. A full feature driver for one or more Windows versions is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website.

   NOTE:

Where is the download button? The HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or is installed through the Windows Update feature on your computer. You do not need to download anything from a website in order to print, scan, or fax.

See the Frequently asked questions in this document for additional information, including how to scan using this driver.

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

Thank you for your help. I took my computer and printer to the store and paid to have the printer installed, but they were unable to install it. So sorry to say I returned the printer for a refund.

I have tried your suggestion i.e. %temp% and could not find a .msi file. now I have a large temp file. A different tech guy tried to install the printer driver but was unable to install it.

@thebaron

That's unfortunate. To delete the temp files on your PC,

·Open Run box by pressing Windows + R keys

·Type %TEMP% and press Enter

·In the Temp directory, press CTRL+A to select all file and folders

·While selected right-click any file/directory and select Delete

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Thank you Kumar. It deleted over 9GB of temp files but did not delete two items, one folder MEI61242 and one file FX8APID. But still unable to get my deskjet D3762 to fully install. It did say loading  something (driver I guess) when I connected the printer and I was able to print a test page. I still have my old D5560 printer installed and the test page that printed Said,"Printer name HP Deskjet D3762". Printer model "HP Deskjet D5500 series.

So I guess I am doing something wrong.

@thebaron

What is the exact model of the HP printer you are using?

How is the printer connected to the PC?

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

Also, in one of your previous posts, you mentioned that the printer has been returned?

Keep me posted.

Hi Kumar. I have the deskjet 3762 connected via USB. I was going to get a refund but a different tech guy said ' bring your computer in and I will try to load the software'. But he could not get it to load. He said he would refund me, but I said I will keep it because there are people on the HP forum trying to help me. I have been given for free by a friend a HP Photosmart C5280 plus the installation CD, so will see if I can get it to work.

Regards Tony
