I know it's not a set up that's supported by HP ... but I have an old WIN/XP machine that I'd like to be able to use the printer. I have other machines (WIN10 and WIN7) that I expect I'll be able to get software for with no issues.
From the HP site, I've specified my WINXP OS and downloaded 3 installation packages to install ("basic", "firmware" & "software utilities"). Before I waste time in actually trying to install them, I'm just wondering if it's even reasonable to think I'll be able to use the printer on my WIN/XP machine. (Note: I fully understand I can't expect >HP product support< and all software functions of the printer, but for example can I expect to at least print a basic test page from my WIN/XP machine?).
Thanks in advance.

Hello @john_canuck ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I think so, provided the XP computer does not yet contain HP printer software.
First download only this complete package: "HP ENVY 5000 All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories ", File name: EN5000_Full_WebPack_44.4.2678.exe (127.5 MB), if not already done.
You can find further information here: how-to
Then proceed as follows:
Check the system for
- TuneUp`s
- Optimization Tools
- Cleanup Tools
disable them, better uninstall them. Next...
For the installation of the complete software I recommend the USB installation.
Via USB, means wait until the installation asks to connect the printer/scanner.
Document error messages, even better is a screenshot and upload here.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Andreas
