No blank pages in this case. Just stops printing cold. I've been having to turn printer on/off and reinstall the driver every few pages between jobs and for large documents.

Already tried what's been shared on the web and in forum discussions so far short of a factory reset and would like to know how to do that.

I appreciate the support including any further suggestions in advance!

@jeffreypine, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I see that you have printing issues, this seems more like a connectivity issue. I am assuming that the printer is connected wireless, if yes,

To be able to assist you better, I would like to know the following:

  • Are the printer and PC connected to the same network?
  • Is your router dual-band enabled i.e., both 2.4GHz and 5GHz?
  • What is the distance between the router and the printer?
  • Is there any antivirus software installed on your computer?
  • Could you perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results?

Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by selecting the wireless icon on the printer display.

The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold option-click the WiFi icon and then use shift-command-5 to take the screenshot. Press the space bar when the icon turns into a camera. Share the ping test results and the screenshot with us.

Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.

Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks for reaching out!

  • They are connected to a single network.
  • It is dual-band enabled and I've tried manually locking to one or the other.
  • The distance is about 10 feet away?
  • I have two devices, one with and the other without antivirus software, they both have the same problem- even when connected to USB, I should have mentioned earlier. When it doesn't print anything at all, it still makes a sound as if it's going to begin to print then nothing happens.

The image doesn't seem to want to attach:

10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0.0% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 7.271/15.255/25.472/5.253 ms

This is just after another document stopped printing halfway through.

Whenever I set up the printer over again probably about half the time it was via bonjour and the other half via software from this website because I wanted to make sure there weren't any updates that were missed.

Thanks for replying!

ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac

Remove and add the printer

Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences.

Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Click the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then delete the printer.

Select printer and click the minus sign

Click the Plus sign, and then click Add Printer or Scanner.

Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

Click Add to add the printer to the list.

Try to print.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you! I've done both of those things (update both the computer which has stayed updated all along and now the printer firmware which I hadn't updated for some time) and it seemed fine for a few days when I didn't have much to print. I had a bigger packet to print today and it's started acting up again and stopped after 5 (out of 25) pages.

Reset the printing system and re-add the printer-

  1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.

  2. Click Printers & Scanners, Print & Scan, or Print & Fax.

  3. Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.

Figure : Clicking Reset printing system

    Image: Click Reset printing system
  4. Click Reset or OK.

  5. If prompted, type your username and password, and then click OK.

    The printing system resets.

  6. Turn off the printer, wait 5 seconds, and then turn on the printer.

  7. Wait until the printer is idle and silent.

  8. In the Printers window on the Mac, click the Add button .

  9. Select your printer from the list, and then click Add.

It might take a few seconds before your printer displays in the Printers list.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks, I followed through with your instructions on all my devices.

Still doing that. Generally stops around page 4-5 then won't take any further print jobs.

Disable security software and try printing.

Also, you may want to uninstall and reinstall the printer software. Refer to the document HP Printers - Uninstalling HP Printer Software (Mac) for help.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
