@babe1927, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Unable to Activate HP Smart for Scanning!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If you are facing issues with activating the HP Smart app in order to scan, follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem:
Check Network Connection:
- Ensure that your printer and the device with the HP Smart app are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- If using a wired connection, ensure the Ethernet cable is correctly connected to both the printer and the network router.
Update the HP Smart App:
- Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your device. You can download the latest version from the HP Smart - Microsoft Store (Windows), HP Smart - Mac App Store (macOS), or 123.hp.com (Android, Apple iOS).
Sign In to Your HP Account:
- Open the HP Smart app and sign in to your HP account. If you do not have an account, follow the steps to create one.
Check Bluetooth and Location Settings:
- Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device.
- For iOS and Android, enable the location service and allow the HP Smart app to use your location to find your printer, network connection, and offer regional services.
Restart Your Devices:
- Restart your printer and the device running the HP Smart app to re-establish connections and clear any temporary errors.
Printer Setup Completion:
- Ensure that the printer setup is complete. If the setup was incomplete, an alert might display in the HP Smart app to finish setting up.
Re-add the Printer to HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart app, sign in if necessary, and click on "Add Printer" or the Add icon. Follow prompts to re-add your printer.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
