HP ENVY Photo 7830 All-in-One Printer

I have just discovered I cannot use the printer I OWN or the cartridges I also OWN. because I no longer have a current subscription with the company. Here is the message I am confronted with.

"Your HP Instant Ink subscription ended on 26/12/2024. Enroll this printer again to resume your subscription and get ink delivered automatically. Your Instant Ink cartridges stopped working without an active subscription."

The reason for cancelling my subscription was that I simply never used the printer enough and was effectively paying a monthly standing charge, which amounted to £24.00 a year for something I was not using.

I paid this for three years before canceling. In that time, I received 1 new cartridge, thereby, £72.00 for an ink cartridge. !!!

.They are effectively holding me hostage to their rules even when I no longer have anything to do with them.

Has anyone else been confronted with this ridiculous situation?  Surely, this cannot be allowed.

Hi @Rob6862,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP printer displays a message indicating that you cannot use your Instant Ink cartridges because your subscription has ended, it means that Instant Ink cartridges are only functional while the printer is enrolled in the Instant Ink service. Upon cancellation, these cartridges stop working.

Steps to Resolve the Issue

Replace Instant Ink Cartridges with Regular HP Cartridges:

  • Purchase and install original HP ink cartridges compatible with your printer model.
  • Instant Ink cartridges will not function without an active subscription, so replacing them with regular cartridges should resolve the issue.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a power reset to ensure the changes take effect:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Key Points to Consider

Instant Ink Subscription Impact: Instant Ink cartridges are designed to work only while your printer is enrolled in the Instant Ink service. This means if you cancel the subscription, the cartridges you own through Instant Ink will become inactive.

Purchasing Regular Cartridges: To continue using your printer, you will need to purchase regular HP cartridges directly from a retailer.

I hope this helps.
