Unable to printer wirelessly even though  my printer is recognized.  It acts like it's going to print but does not.

Hi @EScottMc,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering an issue where your HP Officejet J4680 is recognized by your computer but is unable to print wirelessly, despite showing signs that it's about to print. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this:

1. Check Printer Status

  • Make sure the printer is online and ready to print. You can check this through the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app on your computer. Ensure there are no error messages like "Offline" or "Paper Jam."

2. Verify Wireless Connection

  • Confirm that the printer is connected to the correct wireless network. You can print a network configuration page from the printer's menu to verify the connection.
  • Ensure that the computer is on the same network as the printer.

3. Update Printer Drivers

  • Sometimes, updated drivers can cause issues with older printers. You can try reinstalling the drivers:
    1. Go to HP Support and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
    2. Uninstall the current drivers from your computer via the Device Manager or Control Panel.
    3. Install the downloaded drivers and restart the computer.

4. Restart Printer and Router

  • Power cycle both your printer and router. Turn them off, wait for about 30 seconds, then turn them back on.
  • This can help resolve any connectivity issues.

5. Set the Printer as Default

  • Ensure your HP OfficeJet J4680 is set as the default printer on your computer:
    • Windows 10/11: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners and set your printer as the default.

6. Check Printer Queue

  • Sometimes, print jobs get stuck in the queue. Open the Printer Queue on your computer and delete any stuck jobs.
  • Try printing again after clearing the queue.

7. Test with USB Connection

  • If the issue persists, try connecting the printer via USB to see if the issue is specific to the wireless connection. If it prints correctly via USB, the problem may be with the network setup.

8. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website. This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve common printer issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
