I was trying to get my office jet 5255 to print a list of faxes sent when I received the error code OXB8221AAE

Hi @rsjones811

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how discouraging it feels to see an error code like OXB8221AAE appear when you’re simply trying to print a fax report. Thank you for already attempting to print the list — that effort is appreciated. This code generally indicates a communication or internal processing hiccup within the printer.

Let’s walk through steps that can help clear it and get your OfficeJet 5255 back on track:

Power reset the printer

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors) and power the printer back on.

Check fax memory and settings

  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Fax > Fax Setup.
  • Ensure the fax memory is not full. If needed, delete old fax logs to free space.
  • Try printing the fax activity report again.

Update the printer firmware

Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows 10 computer.
  • Select your printer, go to “Printer Settings,” and choose “Diagnose & Fix.”
  • Follow the guided steps to automatically detect and resolve issues.

Try printing another report

  • From the printer’s control panel, attempt to print a different report (such as a network configuration page).
  • If that prints successfully, retry the fax activity report.

These steps should help clear the error and allow the fax report to print. If the error persists after firmware update and reset, it may point to a deeper internal processing issue, but often the reset and update resolve it.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
