@steveroe, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To set up HP Print for Chrome on your HP ENVY 6120e with Chrome OS, you typically don’t need a "configuration URL" like in older Google Cloud Print setups (which were discontinued). Instead, modern HP printers like yours use HP Smart and native printing via IPP or Wi-Fi Direct.
However, if you're being asked for a "Configuration URL" for HP printing on a Chromebook, here’s what you can do:
Steps to Set Up HP Printer on Chromebook:
Connect Printer to Wi-Fi
- Make sure your HP ENVY 6120e is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Chromebook.
- On the printer's control panel:
Go to Settings > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard, and follow prompts to connect.
Enable Web Services (for HP Smart features)
- On the printer's screen, go to: Settings > Web Services > Enable Web Services
Once enabled, your printer will print a page with the printer’s email address and a claim code. - The Configuration URL is often:
http://[printer_IP_address] - You can find the printer’s IP by printing a Network Configuration Page (usually under Network Settings).
Add Printer on Chromebook
On your Chromebook:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Advanced > Printing > Printers.
- Click Add Printer.
- Select your printer from the list (it should show up if on the same Wi-Fi).
If prompted, provide IP (use the one from the config page above).
If You Specifically Need the "Configuration URL":
Go to your browser on the Chromebook and enter:
Example:
This opens your printer’s embedded web server (EWS), which is effectively the "configuration URL."
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

@steveroe, Thank you for your response.
And sorry to hear it’s still not working. Since accessing the Embedded Web Server (EWS) via the printer's IP didn't work, let's try a few deeper steps to help you get that configuration URL or get the printer working with your Chromebook.
Let's Troubleshoot This Step by Step:
Print a Network Configuration Page
This will give you the printer's actual IP address.
On the HP ENVY 6120e:
- Tap the Wireless icon on the printer screen.
- Tap Settings (gear icon) > Print Reports > Network Configuration Page.
- Look for:
- IPv4 Address (e.g., 192.168.1.115)
- Status: Connected (it must say connected to Wi-Fi)
Test IP Address from Chromebook
- On your Chromebook, open Chrome.
- Type the IP address from the config page into the address bar:
http://192.168.X.X - If it doesn’t load, the possible reasons are:
- Printer and Chromebook are not on the same network.
- Firewall or router settings are blocking access.
- Printer’s Web Services or networking is malfunctioning.
Try Accessing via HP Smart App (from your phone)
- Install HP Smart app on your phone (iOS or Android).
- Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi.
- Open HP Smart > Add your printer > Tap the printer > View network info / EWS link.
If you can access the EWS from your phone, you’ll be able to find the configuration page and enable Web Services from there.
Reset Network Settings on Printer
If nothing works so far:
- On printer:
Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults - Reconnect to Wi-Fi using:
Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard
Try again to reach the printer via IP afterward.
Alternative (Easier) Chromebook Setup:
If you still can’t reach the EWS, skip it entirely and use this:
From Your Chromebook:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Advanced > Printing > Printers.
- Click Add Printer.
- If your printer shows up automatically, click Add.
- If not, click Add manually:
- Name: HP ENVY 6120e
- Address: Use the IP from the config page
- Protocol: IPP
- Queue: ipp/print
- When asked for a driver, choose:
HP > HP ENVY 6000 series
I hope this helps!
If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Yes” button to say thanks!
Take care and have a great day.

Hi Max3Ai, thanks for replying i'm afraid i may be getting out of my depth so can i ask if there is a way to attach a copy of the network config report so you can advise further. The printer works fine from my iphone and i can also print from the chromebook, i am struggling with extensions for editing. Thanks again,Steve.

@steveroe, Thank you for your response.
Since you mentioned:
- You can print from Chromebook and iPhone
- But you're struggling with extensions for editing
It sounds like the printer itself is working, and you're looking to configure it more deeply (like scan-to-email, HP+ setup, or advanced options)?
Let me know exactly what editing or extensions you're trying to set up — e.g.:
- Editing PDFs or scans?
- Using HP Smart features on Chromebook?
- Accessing printer settings via Chrome?
Please PM the details.
