Hi @markwhatley62,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 9720e is printing double copies of each document. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check Print Settings

Open the document or file you’re printing from.

Make sure the “Copies” field is set to 1. Sometimes the application may override printer defaults.

Check Printer Queue

Press Windows + R, type control printers, and open Devices and Printers.

Right-click your printer → See what’s printing.

Clear any duplicate print jobs in the queue.

Check Printer Preferences

Open Devices and Printers → right-click your HP 9720e → Printing Preferences.

Look for any settings like “N-up printing” or “Print multiple copies” that may be causing duplicates.

Update Printer Drivers

Go to HP Support and download the latest drivers for Windows 11.

Install them and restart your PC before trying to print again.

Reset the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and turn it on to clear any temporary memory issues that could cause double printing.

Check for Application-Specific Issues

Try printing from a different program (like Notepad or WordPad) to see if duplicates still occur.

If it only happens with one application, check that app’s print settings.

Firmware Update

Check if your printer has a firmware update available via the HP Smart app or HP website. Firmware updates often fix printing errors.

I hope this helps.
