I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 all-in-one printer. Its WIFI setting is 2G. Spectrum provides my internet connection and its WIFI is set at 5G. My laptop, using WIFI at 5G is unable to connect and communicate with my printer. Both are connected to the internet service provider. How to I get them to communicate?

Most wifi routers provided support both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz. The challenge is the printer will try to connect to the 5Ghz and will appear connected but cannot actually communicate. You need to configure the 2.4Ghz channel of your Spectrum router with a unique SSID (different than the 5Ghz) and only allow the printer to connect to that 2.4Ghz SSID. You will then be able to access the printer from your computer.
