My HP Envy 6055e suddenly started flashing orange, and now it does not print out text on any document I have tried (Word, PDF or email). On the email it will print out links and images only. On PDF it only prints out the words that are in a color block.
I have tried several suggestions I found on previous posts, but none have worked.
Please help!!

Hi @caseyk1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reaching out — it sounds like your HP Envy 6055e is experiencing a printing issue where black text is missing, combined with a flashing orange light. Based on what you’ve described, this is likely caused by a black ink issue or a cartridge recognition problem, especially since it prints graphics but not plain text.
Here’s a step-by-step guide,
Step 1: Check Ink Levels and Run Test Page
- Open HP Smart
- Go to Printer Settings > Reports > Print Quality Diagnostic Page
- Look closely:
- If black is missing or streaked, the black cartridge is likely clogged or empty.
Step 2: Remove and Reinstall Cartridges
- Power on the printer
- Open the ink cartridge access door
- Carefully remove both cartridges (black and tri-color)
- Gently clean the electrical contacts (gold contacts) on the cartridges and inside the printer using:
- A lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water
- Reinsert the cartridges firmly
Important: Make sure you're using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP cartridges or refilled ones can cause this exact behaviour, especially on HP+ models.
Step 3: Clean the Printhead via Printer Menu or HP Smart
- In HP Smart, go to:
- Printer Settings > Tools > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
- After cleaning, print another test page
You may need to run the cleaning 2–3 times, with a 30-second wait between runs.
Step 5: Update Firmware and Drivers
A bug in outdated firmware can cause partial printing.
- Download the latest firmware:
🔗 HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support - Install the latest version of HP Smart and full printer software
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
