laserjet 1018
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hello,

I followed the procedure proposed here

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/J-ai-BESOIN-DU-PILOTE-LOGICIEL-D-INSTALLATION-IMPRIM...

I downloaded here as suggested

https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=hp%20laserjet%201018

and here is the result: "The printer driver was not installed. The specified file cannot be found".

where did I go wrong?

The driver needs to be downloaded, it will be a .cab file.  You will need to extract the contents of the .cab file to a directory.  The eaasiesst way for me is to use a program like 7-Zip, you could also use the DOS command prompt as follows:  open a DOS window, cmd.exe.  Now click to give focus to the DOS window.  In the DOS window type the following:

cd \temp      (or wherever you saved the cab file)

md lj1018       (or wherever you want to store the driver)

expand  *.cab  -F:* c:\temp\lj1018

Then go to Start, Devices and Printers, Add a Printer, have disk and point it at the c:\temp\lj1018 directory (or wherever you expanded the files).  This directory will have a file LJ1020.INF that you will select.
