HP Smart Tank 5000/5100 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Installing new HP smart tank 5000 printer, error, metered connection.  It is listed with wireless, but won't connect when add a device.

Try these steps:

Turn Off Metered Connection

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Network & Internet.
  3. Click on Wi-Fi.
  4. Select your Wi-Fi network.
  5. Turn off the option for Set as metered connection.

Install Printer via HP Smart App

  1. Download the HP Smart app for Windows 8.1 from the HP Smart - Microsoft Store.
  2. Open the app and sign in to your HP account.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to add your HP Smart Tank 5000 printer.
  4. Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Check Wi-Fi Connection

  1. Ensure your printer is turned on and connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Confirm that the Wi-Fi signal is strong enough. If the signal is weak, move the printer closer to the router.
  3. Print a Wireless Network Test Report:
    • On the printer control panel, go to Network Setup and print the Wireless Network Test Report.
    • Make sure the printer passed all tests.

Restart Devices

  1. Restart your printer.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Restart your router if necessary.

Reconnect Printer

  1. In the HP Smart app, select Add Printer.
  2. Follow the prompts to reconnect your printer to the Wi-Fi network.
  3. Ensure the printer is added correctly in the HP Smart app.

Update Printer Firmware

 Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.
