I have an OfficeJet Pro X576DW (CN598a) that has a very old firmware (LZP1CN1409BR). I need to update the firmware like I have on over 100 X476's, so that the printer can now have the option of "Letterhead" as a paper type in the trays.
I have downloaded and executed the upgrade file, OJPX576DW_CN1640AR_updated.exe. But when it runs, my printer is greyed out and the status is listed as "Not-applicable".
Any ideas?

Maybe it's too much of a jump, and using an older one first would then allow you to update to the latest?
Or maybe using the printer's built-in update function will work?
In my case, mine is the one from late 2015, not 2014, and the updater refuses to show the printer at all. Only one thing has changed in the latest firmware relative to the last, but still, it's strange.

I contacted HP. Problem resolved. I could not upgrade to the latest version of the firmware that is readily available from HP's site. They gave me a link to an ftp site with a user name and password and I downloaded an earlier update to put on a flash drive and update the unit. When that was done, I used the update utility to bring the printer to current version.
