HP 5740e all in one printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello

I have a got a HP officejet 5740e all in one, Since the Windows 10 upgrade to 1809 . My printer is now not working printing anything out not even a test page and also the double sided function does not work. I have downloaded the latest HP drivers from the website, but still no joy.

Any advice on how to solve this I would be really grateful thank you.

If you haven't checked it already, I recommend you try the copier as a stand-alone device without a computer and check if that works in color:

  • If it doesn't work, this could be a hardware issue,
  • however, if the copier works and yet, the print out from the computer doesn't work in color, you can try the below steps:
  • Press "Windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services - Go to "Print spooler" - Right-click and "Stop" the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type "spool" and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel - Programs and feature - Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel - Devices and printer - Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type - "c:/programdata" - Go to the Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.

Then, use this link to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it: CLICK HERE

If nothing works, try going back to an older version of Windows.

And your device is up and running again, only in case you don't get back to us, first!

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Hello @Riddle_Decipher

Thank you for providing me with some solution's to get this printer working I have done the required steps and here is the updates.

  • I forgot to mention my printer is connected via ethernet network cable to my hub, but i did change it to the usb connection to try printer from the computer and it did not work.
  • The printer standalone works printed in colour and scaning documents then printed.
  • I redownloaded the HP printer drivers from the website and re-installed, restarted the pc and this happened when i tried to do a test print or click on preferences i have attached  a photo of each error.
  • The scanning HP software works from the computer so i can scan and it saves to the PC. Error_When_Pressing_Preferences.JPGError_When_Pressing_TestPage.JPG

I will send another update as i will put back Windows to Version 1803 and try again, will let you know the result.

Hello @Riddle_Decipher

Update.

I have put back Windows 10 version 1803 and i can confirm that the printer does print as normal , the double sided feature works and the errors in the previous post i attached no longer come up. So I think the Driver package on for the HP OfficeJet 5740e printer is not compatible with 1809 at the moment.

Are you able to tell the HP driver development team to update these drivers please.

Kind regards

Hi

Unfortuantely I have the exact same problem on the exact same operating system. Windows 10 x64 Pro Ver. 1809. HP Envy 5640

Can't print a single page. Even if I try from Notepad I get "The parameter is incorrect".
When I go to HP Printer Assistant and try to access "Set Preferences" I get a popup error:

C:\Windows\splwow64.exe
Function address 0x51ba5299 caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xe06d7363) Some or all property page(s)                may not be displayed.

I can confirm that the problem lies in the incomaptiblity with the driver and windows ver 1809. Because I can print just fine from my laptop (older windows version) and even from my android phone. I've also formated my computer two times trying with both Pro and Home (ver. 1809) and it didn't do any difference.

Extremely frustrating...
