Hi @ddh21
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand how important it is to have a stable wireless connection with your printer, and I'll be happy to help you look into this.
To better understand the situation, could you kindly confirm the below details :
- Is the printer connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network or a 5 GHz network?
- Does the Wi-Fi light on the printer start blinking after it wakes from sleep?
In the meantime, kindly try the below steps and confirm :
- Disable Router Smart Connect (If Available)
- Some routers automatically switch devices between Wi-Fi bands, which can affect printer connectivity.
- If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks under a single name, consider creating a dedicated 2.4 GHz network and connect the printer to it.
- Assign a Static IP Address
- Reserving an IP address for the printer in your router settings can help prevent connection drops after the printer wakes from sleep.
- Restore Network Settings and Reconnect
- Reset the printer's wireless settings and reconnect it using the HP app.
- This can refresh any network configuration that may be causing the issue.
- Check Sleep Mode Behaviour
- Ensure the printer remains plugged directly into a wall outlet rather than a power-saving strip.
- Some power-saving settings can affect how the wireless module wakes from sleep.

Based on what you've described, the printer appears to be losing its network connection after entering sleep mode and is not automatically reestablishing communication with the router when it wakes up. This can happen due to router configuration, Wi-Fi band steering, outdated firmware, IP address changes, or wireless settings that do not properly maintain the connection during power-saving states. The steps above are designed to identify and resolve these common causes.
I hope this helps.
