Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 2620.

It is connected to my windows 10 PC via USB.

Internet is via my mobile phone data.

PC finds printer but printer can't connect to the internet:

I have tried using my phones WIFI-direct connection but that doesn't work either.

I have uninstalled the HP smart app on PC and resintalled but no luck.

I have instant ink but can't print until the printer connects.

It last worked in March, so it can work, it just doesn't. Maybe windows 10 update to 20H2?

Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to connect to an instant ink server with a hotspot connection.

Alternatively, you could cancel instant ink service and use regular cartridges and print/ scan using the WIFI direct connection.

Hope this helps!

Keep me posted!

Hi @pleasehelpuk,

I'd like to help!

I understand you want to connect the printer to a network to update the instant ink status so you can print. HP does not recommend using any mobile hotspot as it is not a reliable method of connecting the printer to the network.

Hotspots don’t provide LAN connectivity they only provide an internet connection.

Please try and connect the printer to a router/modem to update the instant ink status.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Jay,

No, this doesn't help at all really. I only have a mobile connection, nothing else! Everything else I do on my mobile is fine on my mobile except this printer!

If as you say " they only provide an internet connection" why doesn't the printer find that connection?

The stupid thing is that I can go to my accounnt and it can give me lists of IP addresses, ink status, I can scan but it won't connect to update the instantink!

Is there no other way to fix this? The printer is useless otherwise.

Thanks.

I have to say in this day and age that's pretty rubbish.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jay,

I'll have to go buy some cartridges. However, I'm wondering what I need to do about the old ones on the instant ink service? If I get new cartridges will I be able to print again, or will printing still be locked?

Thanks,

HP Recommended

Once you cancel the instant ink service the cartridges will stop working after that billing cycle, you will have to replace them with regular ink cartridges.

You will be able to use the printer with regular ink and the printer will not be locked when the service is canceled.

Hope this helps, keep me posted!

But how will the printer know it has been cancelled if it can't communicate with instant ink? Or will just putting different cartidges in it fix it?

Obviously I don't want to spend a load of money on new carts to find it won't work still.

Thanks.

You could purchase one cartridge to try, your printer has the capability to work in a single cartridge.

You should be able to use regular ink cartridges without canceling service and it should still work.

But, if you do not cancel the service you might be charged on monthly basis.

Hope this answers your questions.
