Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My printer has worked flawlessly for years and now when I give it something to print it displays the message connect printer to update ink or printing will be blocked.

The thing prints, communicates with my machine and shows it is connected to my wifi. Should I worry about it?

Is it going to quit printing on me?

Help lol.

Hi @Jonlits

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I acknowledge the situation you are experiencing with your HP DeskJet 3830 printer. The message you are seeing indicates that the printer requires a connection to update ink information, even though it is already communicating with your computer and Wi‑Fi. The printer will continue to function, but to ensure uninterrupted printing and proper ink management, it is important to follow the recommended steps.

Here are the points to follow:

Confirm Printer Connection in HP App

  • Open the HP App on your computer or mobile device.
  • Verify that the printer is listed and shows as connected.
  • If it appears offline, remove the printer and add it again through the app.

Run Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • In the HP App, go to your printer’s settings.
  • Select Diagnose & Fix.
  • Allow the tool to automatically check and resolve connectivity or ink update issues.

Update Printer Firmware

  • In the HP App, navigate to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Printer Update.
  • Ensure the firmware is up to date. This helps maintain ink communication and prevents blocking messages.

Check Ink Cartridge Authentication

  • Open the printer’s front access door.
  • Remove and reinsert the ink cartridges firmly.
  • Confirm that they are genuine HP cartridges. Non‑HP cartridges may not update correctly.

Restart Devices

  • Power off the printer, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on.
  • Restart your computer or mobile device.
  • Reconnect through the HP App.

Summary: Your printer is still operational, but the message is a prompt to ensure ink updates are properly synchronized. By reconnecting through the HP App, running Diagnose & Fix, and confirming firmware and cartridge status, you can maintain smooth printing without interruption.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
