Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Setup with a new DeskJet 4152e failed when I tried to set up direct WiFi connection with my printer. The page I printed only printed colored ink so the password to setup the printer wasn’t visible. The printer is new, out of the box. Not one page was printed before I tried to setup and the black ink wasn’t working. Could it be a bad ink cartridge?

Hi @Debowen

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can imagine how disappointing it feels to unbox a brand‑new printer, eager to set it up, only to find the black ink not printing and the Wi‑Fi setup page missing the password. Thank you for already trying the direct Wi‑Fi setup and printing the information page—that was a great first step.

Let’s go through a few checks together to get both the ink and the setup working smoothly:

Cartridge seating

  • Open the front access door and gently remove the black cartridge.
  • Check for any protective tape still covering the copper contacts or nozzle. Even a small piece left behind can block ink flow.
  • Reseat the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Print a diagnostic page

  • On the printer’s control panel, press and hold the Cancel and Color Copy buttons together.
  • This should print a diagnostic page. If the black ink still doesn’t appear, it helps confirm whether the cartridge is at fault or if it’s a setup issue.

Align the cartridges

  • Open the HP App on your Windows computer, select your printer, and run the Align Cartridges option.
  • Alignment ensures the printer recognizes the cartridges correctly and can sometimes restore missing colors.

Wi‑Fi setup without password printout

  • If the black ink prevents the password from being visible, you can still connect the printer by using the HP App.
  • Download it here: Install HP App for Windows.
  • Once installed, open the app, select “Set up a new printer,” and follow the guided steps. The app will detect the printer and help connect it to Wi‑Fi without needing the printed password.

Check cartridge authenticity

  • Ensure the cartridge is a genuine HP cartridge. Non‑genuine cartridges may not initialize properly in a new printer.

If the black ink continues to fail after reseating and alignment, it may indeed be a cartridge issue. For now, these steps should help you confirm whether the cartridge is functioning and allow you to complete the Wi‑Fi setup through the HP App.
