Hi @16kimberly

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Here's how you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Your Wi-Fi Network

  • Router Settings: Make sure the router is configured to allow devices to connect. Ensure the SSID (network name) is broadcasting and that your network is not hidden.
  • Check for Wi-Fi Filters: If your router has any MAC address filtering or access control list (ACL), make sure the printer's MAC address is not being blocked.
  • Wi-Fi Band: If your router is using dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), try connecting the printer to the 2.4 GHz network as some older printers have trouble connecting to the 5 GHz band.

2. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to the Wireless menu.
  2. Find the option for Restore Network Settings or Reset Network Settings (this can vary by model).
  3. Confirm the reset and allow the printer to reboot.

After resetting, follow the steps below to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

3. Re-Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi

  1. On the printer, go to the Wireless or Network settings on the screen.
  2. Select the option to Set Up Wireless or Wireless Setup Wizard.
  3. The printer will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your network name (SSID) from the list.
  4. Enter the Wi-Fi password (case-sensitive) for your network.
  5. Once connected, the printer should display a confirmation message indicating the successful connection.

4. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s website.
  2. Open the program and select Fix Printing or Fix Scanning (depending on what you need).
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to let the tool check for any issues with your printer and network connection.

5. Check for Printer Firmware Updates

  1. Check the printer’s Firmware version in the settings.
  2. Go to HP Support and look up the latest firmware update for the HP 4635.
  3. If an update is available, follow the instructions to update the printer’s firmware.

6. Router Settings: Disable MAC Filtering

  1. Log into your router’s admin console (usually accessed by typing the router’s IP address into a web browser, like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
  2. Look for a setting called MAC Address Filtering or Access Control.
  3. Disable the MAC filtering or add your printer’s MAC address to the allowed list.
  4. Save the changes and try reconnecting the printer.

7. Check Wi-Fi Security Settings

  1. Check the Wi-Fi security settings on your router (access the router admin interface as described above).
  2. If your router is using WPA3, switch to WPA2 to ensure compatibility with older devices.
  3. Ensure the router’s SSID broadcast is enabled.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
