6001 Smart Tank Printer won't connect to wifi - can only use it as a copy machine. It was working fine for 3 months. 2 days ago, I printed page 1 of a report, then a minute later when I tried to print another page, the printer was offline and I haven't been able to reconnect yet. The Printer Report says that "Networking Capabilities are Not Available" and to contact the person who installed the printer. That was me, and I did enable networking capabilities because it was working fine. I went through all of the steps to reset everything as instructed by the HP Tech assisting me, nothing worked, and now both the wifi network and HP Smart app can't see the printer, so can't connect. Please repair or replace this defective printer. Thank you.

Hi @Dave2551,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with connecting your Printer to the network.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
C) If the issue still persists, please follow the steps below to connect your printer to the network again.
1) Uninstall the HP smart app by click on this link, Restart the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.
2) Enable Wi-Fi setup mode: When you turn on your printer for the first time, it is temporarily placed in Wi-Fi setup mode so that it can be discovered during setup. Use the printer control panel to restore Wi-Fi setup mode, and then set up the printer again. Go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer for more information.
3) Refer to this link to use the HP smart app on your phone/tablet/PC to add a printer.
Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

Thanks for the information, but your very first instruction is questionable. You said the first thing to do to get my printer reconnected to the network is to 'take out the cartridges'. The Smart Tank 6001 doesn't have cartridges. What? Then, I performed all of the power requests you made, but of course, couldn't 'put the cartridges back in'. No results, so I continued. I couldn't update the firmware because the system couldn't see the printer. I then uninstalled the Smart app and removed the 6001 printer. I then reinstalled the Smart app, went to add printer, the 6001 was in the list to add, but when I tried to add it, it told me there was an error and to refer to further manufacturer instructions. Finally, I tried to get the printer into wifi setup mode, but nothing happened. The button lights are not illuminated, so pressing the Cancel button does nothing, and pressing the cancel button along with the wifi button doesn't do anything either.
Thank you for your efforts trying to fix my printer. I have done all of the steps you and others have given me with no results. I now wish to begin a repair order and get my printer repaired. You know, hardware breaks, and the unit I have is broken.
Just to repeat the failure - I printed page 1 of a report, looked at it for a minute, tried to print page 2 of the report, and my printer was offline and hasn't been able to reconnect yet. That sounds exactly like a hardware failure, not a software problem. Wouldn't you agree?
