Hi @Elaine1968 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One printer is falsely indicating that it’s out of ink when the cartridges are actually full, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
Check Ink Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the printer’s access door to reach the ink cartridges.
- Remove the cartridges and check the contacts for any dirt or residue.
- Gently wipe the contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.
- Reinstall the cartridges securely.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 1-2 minutes before plugging it back in.
- Turn the printer on and check if the issue persists.
Check the Ink Levels:
- Make sure you’ve properly installed the ink cartridges. Sometimes a cartridge may not be seated correctly, causing the printer to misread the ink level.
- You can also check the ink levels in the HP Smart app or the printer’s display (if it has one).
Perform a Printer Reset:
- If the previous steps don’t work, try resetting the printer to factory settings:
- On the printer's control panel, press the Settings or Setup button.
- Navigate to Restore Defaults or Reset options, depending on your model.
- Confirm the reset and follow the instructions on-screen.
- After the reset, check if the error clears.
Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date, as outdated firmware can sometimes cause communication issues with ink levels.
- You can update the firmware using the HP Smart app or via the printer's control panel.
Try a Different Cartridge (if possible):
- If you have a spare cartridge or can try a new one, replace the current ink cartridge to rule out the possibility that the cartridge is defective.

I hope this helps.
