Hi @Elaine1968 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One printer is falsely indicating that it’s out of ink when the cartridges are actually full, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check Ink Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printer’s access door to reach the ink cartridges.
  • Remove the cartridges and check the contacts for any dirt or residue.
  • Gently wipe the contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.
  • Reinstall the cartridges securely.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes before plugging it back in.
  • Turn the printer on and check if the issue persists.

Check the Ink Levels:

  • Make sure you’ve properly installed the ink cartridges. Sometimes a cartridge may not be seated correctly, causing the printer to misread the ink level.
  • You can also check the ink levels in the HP Smart app or the printer’s display (if it has one).

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • If the previous steps don’t work, try resetting the printer to factory settings:
    1. On the printer's control panel, press the Settings or Setup button.
    2. Navigate to Restore Defaults or Reset options, depending on your model.
    3. Confirm the reset and follow the instructions on-screen.
  • After the reset, check if the error clears.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date, as outdated firmware can sometimes cause communication issues with ink levels.
  • You can update the firmware using the HP Smart app or via the printer's control panel.

Try a Different Cartridge (if possible):

  • If you have a spare cartridge or can try a new one, replace the current ink cartridge to rule out the possibility that the cartridge is defective.

I hope this helps.
