Microsoft Windows 11

Installed brand new 8120e Office Jet couple of days ago. Installed fine, however whenever I come to print anything I get an message saying that the printer is Offline.

This is a residential useage. WiFi is fine, network is fine, all software is up to date and running fine.

Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

Welcome to the HP English Community --

If you have not done so, (re)check the network setup -

User Guide - HP OfficeJet Pro 8120e - HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e Series

Section Connect to a Wi-Fi network - Starting on Page 7

OR

If the printer is on your network and reachable via the printer's IP address,

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view and adjust the printer's network settings.

Example - EWS -

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Primary Ethernet > Check / Adjust Status and other tabs...

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Wi-Fi > Section IP Config > IPv4

Notes

  • It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • If needful and if supported, set the Band Frequency to the frequency you want the printer to use.

Example - EWS - Section Network > WiFi

EWS_9135_Network_Wi-Fi_IP_Config_IPv4_2EWS_9135_Network_Wi-Fi_IP_Config_IPv4_2

Thank you for your response. Whilst waiting for a  reply I spoke to my local PC engineer we think we've sorted it out. For added protection I use a VPN and it would appear that HP Smart Printing doesn't like that. Which is understandable when my engineer explained that HP S P is the default so that you can monitor my ink as I'm am Instant Ink subscriber. This just means that whenever I want to print I just pause the VPN and all seems to be well. As there are many users with same problem on the HP Forum, might be worth HP notifying all Instant Ink customers that if they use a VPN they must pause it when printing. Have a good weekend and thanks again for getting back to me.

You are welcome.

True - any network specific dependent device or application might have trouble with VPN.

Glad you have it sorted.

Yes, Instant Ink must be able to monitor the printer supplies and activity.

Waiting for Spring.  🌤
