I have an HP 8600

I have unplugged, turned off, reset to factory mode printer.  I have reconnected to my wifi.  (many times)

I can print from my iphone.

I am unable to print from my PC.  I have removed and added printer several times.  HPsmart diagnoses says everything is in order.

However, when i go to printers, my printer says it is idle.  please help.

Hi @rebuildyourlife

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 8600 printer shows as "Idle" on your PC but can print from other devices like your iPhone, follow these steps to troubleshoot:

Check Printer Connections:

  • Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your PC.
  • Verify that there are no network connectivity issues between the PC and the printer.

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off your printer, PC, and router.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds before turning them back on.

Update Printer Driver:

  • Visit the HP Customer Support website to check for the latest drivers for your HP printer model.
  • Install any available updates or reinstall the drivers.

Set as Default Printer:

  • Go to "Control Panel" > "Devices and Printers" on your PC.
  • Right-click your printer and select "Set as default printer".

Clear Print Queue:

  • Double-click on your printer icon in the "Devices and Printers" window to see the print queue.
  • Cancel or clear any pending print jobs.

Check Windows Services:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Find "Print Spooler" in the list, right-click, and select "Restart".

Firewall and Security Software:

  • Ensure that your firewall or security software is not blocking the printer.
  • Try temporarily disabling the firewall to test if it resolves the issue.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
