Hi @Nagurski82,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 won't connect to the internet and keeps showing a password error, even though you're sure the password is correct, try the following steps to resolve the issue.
Restart Devices
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
- Restart the Router: Restart your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Wait for it to fully reconnect to the internet.
Check Wi-Fi Password
- Ensure there are no typos or extra spaces in the Wi-Fi password. Verify the password by connecting another device (like your phone or computer) to the same network.
- If your Wi-Fi network has special characters in the password, try changing the password to something simpler.
Check Printer's Wi-Fi Settings
- Go to the printer's Wireless Setup Wizard on the control panel.
- Navigate to Network Settings → Restore Network Defaults to reset all network settings on the printer. Then, attempt to reconnect to the network.
Update Printer Firmware
- Since you haven't used the printer for a while, outdated firmware could be causing connection issues. Use a computer or USB connection to update the firmware from HP’s website:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
- Download and install the latest firmware update.
Set a Static IP Address
- If the printer still has issues connecting, assigning a static IP address might help:
- From the printer’s control panel, print the Network Configuration Page to find the printer's current IP.
- Go into your router's settings and assign that IP as a static IP for the printer.
Check for Dual-Band Router Issues
- If your router uses both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, make sure your printer is trying to connect to the 2.4GHz band, as many printers do not support 5GHz.
Factory Reset the Printer (Optional)
- As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the printer:
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore Factory Defaults.
- Reconnect to your Wi-Fi network after the reset.
Try these steps, and let me know if the printer connects to the internet!
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
