Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP 9125e offline but is connected.  This has been an ongoing issue with this printer since day 1 and something I've never had happen with any of my previous HP printers.  Yes a reboot will bring it back online until it goes offline again but I shouldn't need to reboot everytime I need to print something.  I've tried every possible troubleshooting step provided in the many many similar posts by other unsatisfied 9125e owners.  Please provide a permanent solution or allow me to exchange this garbage printer for a model that doesn't have this same issue.

Hi @cjf72

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can imagine how frustrating it must feel to have your printer repeatedly go offline even though it shows connected. I appreciate the effort you’ve already put into troubleshooting and rebooting—it shows real persistence.

Let’s go through a structured set of steps that can help stabilize the connection so you don’t have to keep restarting the printer every time.

Step 1: Check Printer Connection Mode

  • If you are using Wi‑Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
  • Avoid guest networks or dual‑band confusion (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz). The printer works best on 2.4 GHz.
  • If using USB, confirm the cable is directly connected and not through a hub.

Step 2: Assign a Static IP

  1. On the printer’s control panel, print a Network Configuration Page.
  2. Note the current IP address.
  3. Open a browser on your computer and type that IP to access the Embedded Web Server.
  4. Navigate to Network > Advanced Settings and set a manual/static IP outside your router’s DHCP range.
This prevents the printer from “dropping off” when the router reassigns addresses.

Step 3: Update Firmware

  • Visit the HP support page for your printer model: HP ENVY Inspire 9120e, 9125e, 9130e, 9135e Printer series
  • Download and install the latest firmware update. This ensures the printer has the most stable communication protocols.

Step 4: Use HP App

  • Install the HP App from the Microsoft Store or Apple App Store.
  • Add your printer in the app and use the Diagnose & Fix option.
  • This tool checks for driver mismatches, queue errors, and connectivity issues automatically.

Step 5: Reset Printing System (Windows)

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right‑click your printer and remove it.
  3. Re‑add the printer using Add a printer and select it by IP address (not by auto‑detect).
This ensures Windows communicates directly with the printer without relying on temporary discovery protocols.

Step 6: Energy Settings

  • On the printer’s control panel, disable Auto‑Off or extend the sleep timer.
  • This prevents the printer from appearing offline when it goes into deep sleep mode.

You’ve already shown great patience by rebooting and testing multiple times. With these steps—especially assigning a static IP and updating firmware—you should see the printer stay consistently online. The support page above also provides manuals and guides that can help confirm each setting.
