HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

The printer worked for about 5 minutes and then quit. It will not connect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything repeatedly. HP support is non-existent. I don't know what happened since 2019, but everything made these days is just absolute junk and completely unreliable.

Hi @MarkTX

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Let’s go step by step to get your printer connected again. Since the printer worked briefly before disconnecting, we’ll focus on stabilizing the connection and ensuring the setup is clean.

1. Power Cycle the Printer and Network

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord for 60 seconds.
  • Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Once the router is fully online, reconnect the printer’s power and turn it on.

2. Verify Wireless Settings on the Printer

  • On the printer’s control panel, open the Wireless or Network menu.
  • Confirm that Wi-Fi is enabled and the printer is connected to the correct network (same SSID as your computer).
  • If not connected, run Wireless Setup Wizard and re-enter your Wi-Fi password.

3. Remove and Reinstall the Printer in Windows

  • On your computer, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select the printer and choose Remove device.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Open the HP App and add the printer again by following the on-screen instructions.

4. Run Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Select your printer, then go to Printer Settings.
  • Choose Diagnose & Fix and allow the tool to run. It will automatically check for and repair connectivity issues.

5. Check IP Address Stability

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel.
  • Verify that the printer has a valid IP address (not starting with 169.x.x.x).
  • If the IP address changes frequently, assign a manual IP through the printer’s Wireless Settings to keep it stable.

6. Test Printing

  • Try printing a test page from the HP App.
  • If successful, attempt printing from another application to confirm stability.

These steps should help restore and maintain the connection. If the issue recurs, repeating the Diagnose & Fix process usually resolves temporary drops.
