HP LaserJet CP1525nw printer, which is connected to our network router by a cord (cable), does not appear on the available device list; therefore, I am not able to add that printer to my new computer. What are my next steps?

Hi @Joyce824,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that  your HP LaserJet CP1525nw printer is connected to the network via a cable but is not appearing on the available device list, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Verify Network Connection:

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to the router through the network cable and check for any physical damage or disconnections.

Printer Network Settings:

  • Access the printer’s control panel and verify that network settings are correctly configured. You can print a network configuration page from the printer to confirm the IP address and network status.

IP Address Check:

  • Note the printer’s IP address from either the network configuration page or the printer’s display and use it to directly add the printer to your computer’s printer devices.

Add the Printer by IP Address:

  • On your computer, go to “Settings” > “Devices” > “Printers & Scanners”. Click “Add a printer or scanner”, select “The printer that I want isn’t listed”, then choose “Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname”. Enter the printer’s IP address obtained earlier.

Ensure Network Discovery is Enabled:

  • Verify that Network Discovery is turned on in Windows on your new computer. This allows the computer to detect other devices on the same network.

Check Firewall Settings:

  • A firewall may block network printer detection. Ensure that your firewall settings allow for printer sharing and network discovery.

Update Drivers:

  • Download the latest printer drivers for your HP LaserJet CP1525nw from HP’s official website and install them on your new computer.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both the printer and router to refresh network connectivity settings.

Router Configuration:

  • Ensure the router settings allow for device connections over the network. DHCP settings should be enabled to automatically assign network addresses to connected devices.

Take care and have an amazing day!
